Bilberry Privacy Policy
This policy explains how the Bilberry app handles information on your device. By using the app, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Summary
Bilberry is a journal. Everything you write is stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud account. Studio Spreza does not operate servers that hold your data. The only services the app talks to are Apple's, and only for the things described below.
Data on your device
- Your entries. What you write, the photos you add, and the place, weather and song attached to an entry are stored on your device. A deleted entry stays in Recently Deleted for 30 days, then is removed.
- Settings. Preferences such as appearance, the writing face and the daily reminder time are stored on the device.
- Widgets. The widgets read a short summary the app keeps on your device, such as the first line of today's latest entry. While Require Face ID is on, the summary holds no words from your journal.
- Spotlight. Bilberry does not add your entries to your device's search index.
Place, weather and music
Bilberry can add context to an entry on its own, but only after you ask for it. Nothing is requested when the app opens. The first time you tap Add Place or Add Song, the system asks for permission; once you allow it, entries you write that day pick up their context as you write them. Context is never added to an entry you date in the past. Each piece can be removed from an entry with one tap, and each kind can be turned off in the app's Settings.
- Place. With your permission, Bilberry reads your location once when an entry is created. It keeps the coordinates and the name of the place, which Apple's maps service looks up from them.
- Weather. The current conditions where you are, from Apple Weather.
- Music. With your permission, the song playing in Apple's Music app on iPhone or iPad. Bilberry cannot see what other apps are playing.
- Journaling Suggestions. On iPhone, you can pick a moment from Apple's Journaling Suggestions. Apple's picker shows the suggestions; Bilberry receives only the one you choose.
- Photos. Adding a photo uses Apple's picker, which gives the app only the photos you choose. Bilberry has no access to your photo library.
iCloud sync
Bilberry syncs your journal across your own devices using CloudKit and your personal iCloud account, whenever you are signed in to iCloud. To stop it, turn off iCloud for Bilberry in Settings under your Apple ID.
When sync is on, your journal is stored in your private iCloud database under your own Apple ID. The words of every entry, its place, its weather and its song are end-to-end encrypted there. It is governed by Apple's privacy policy and terms. Studio Spreza has no access to that database and cannot read your synced data. If iCloud is unavailable, the app continues to work on your device.
Require Face ID
You can require Face ID, Touch ID or your device passcode to open the journal. The check is made by Apple's own system; Bilberry never receives your face, fingerprint or passcode. The lock guards the journal on your devices. It does not add a separate password or encryption of its own.
Reminder
If you turn on the daily reminder, Bilberry schedules a notification on your device. It is created and delivered on the device; nothing is sent to a server.
Importing and exporting
Bilberry reads only the files you choose to import, such as an export from Day One or Apple Journal, and writes only the files you choose to export, where you choose to save them. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Network use
Bilberry has no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party services embedded in it. The only requests it makes go to Apple: iCloud sync, Apple Weather for the weather, Apple's maps service for a place name, and Apple Music for the song. Each of the last three happens only when you have turned that kind of context on.
What Studio Spreza does not do
- No Studio Spreza account. No sign-up, no login, no profile.
- No Studio Spreza server holding your journal.
- No analytics, no crash reporting, and no advertising SDKs in the app.
- No access to your contacts, calendar, reminders, health data or photo library.
- No tracking. The app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and does not use App Tracking Transparency for that purpose.
- We do not sell your personal information.
If any of this changes, this policy will be updated and the App Store privacy labels will be updated with it.
Your choices
- Place, weather and music. Turn each off in the app's Settings, or remove it from a single entry. You can also turn off location and Apple Music access for Bilberry in the Settings app.
- iCloud. Turn iCloud off for Bilberry in Settings under your Apple ID.
- Reminder. Turn the daily reminder off in the app.
- Your journal. Export it at any time, as a full Bilberry Archive or as Markdown. Deleting an entry moves it to Recently Deleted for 30 days, and deleting the app removes its on-device data according to iOS behavior. If you used iCloud, you can also remove Bilberry's data from your iCloud account in Settings.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed specifically at children under 13. If you believe information has been collected that should be removed, contact us at the address below.
Changes
We may update this policy when the app changes. The date at the top changes when we do. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
