Homegrown Privacy Policy
This policy explains how the Homegrown app handles information on your device. By using the app, you agree to this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the app.
Summary
Homegrown helps you look after your houseplants. What you tell it about your plants and your home is stored on your device and, if you use iCloud, in your own private iCloud account. Studio Spreza does not operate servers that hold your data, and the app makes no network requests of its own.
Data on your device
- Your plants and your home. The rooms and windows you describe, each plant's details, its care history, check-ins, notes, photos and videos. A plant you delete stays in Recently Deleted for 30 days, then is removed with everything recorded about it.
- Settings. Your region, your units, nudge times, whether you are away, and preferences such as appearance are stored on the device.
- Widgets. The widgets show plants likely ready for a check, read from a short summary the app keeps on your device: plant and room names, the next check, and a small picture. Lock Screen widgets show plant names.
- Spotlight. Plant names are added to your device's own search index, so you can find a plant from anywhere on the device. The index stays on the device.
iCloud sync and sharing
Homegrown syncs your plants across your own devices using CloudKit and your personal iCloud account, whenever you are signed in to iCloud. To stop it, turn off iCloud for Homegrown in Settings under your Apple ID.
When sync is on, your data is stored in your private iCloud database under your own Apple ID. The names you give your places, rooms, windows, plants and tags, and every note you write, are end-to-end encrypted there. It is governed by Apple's privacy policy and terms. Studio Spreza has no access to that database and cannot read your synced data. If iCloud is unavailable, the app continues to work on your device.
Sharing a household. If you invite someone to your household, they can see and change everything in it: every plant, its history, notes, photos and videos. You can stop sharing at any time.
Camera and location
- Camera. Used when you photograph a plant, and when you ask Homegrown to estimate the light where a plant sits. Light readings are measured from the camera and are never recorded or kept.
- Location. Asked only if you turn on Use local climate. Homegrown reads your location once, keeps only your latitude rounded to the nearest degree, and uses it to fit day length to your home. That number is end-to-end encrypted in your iCloud and goes nowhere else.
- Photos. Adding a photo or video from your library uses Apple's picker, which gives the app only what you choose. Homegrown has no access to your photo library.
Nudges
If you turn on nudges, Homegrown schedules notifications on your device for plants likely ready for a check. They are created and delivered on the device; nothing is sent to a server.
Exporting
Homegrown writes an export only when you ask, to the place you choose: every record as a file, your care and check-ins as spreadsheets, and your photos and videos. Nothing is uploaded anywhere.
Network use
The app makes no network requests of its own. It has no analytics, no crash reporting, no advertising, and no third-party services embedded in it. The only data that leaves your device is the iCloud sync described above, which goes to your own Apple account. Care guidance is written by Studio Spreza and ships inside the app; nothing about your plants is sent anywhere to produce it.
What Studio Spreza does not do
- No Studio Spreza account. No sign-up, no login, no profile.
- No Studio Spreza server holding your plants.
- No analytics, no crash reporting, and no advertising SDKs in the app.
- No access to your contacts, calendar, reminders, health data or photo library.
- No tracking. The app does not track you across other companies' apps or websites, and does not use App Tracking Transparency for that purpose.
- We do not sell your personal information.
If any of this changes, this policy will be updated and the App Store privacy labels will be updated with it.
Your choices
- iCloud. Turn iCloud off for Homegrown in Settings under your Apple ID.
- Location. Turn Use local climate off in the app, and the location permission off in the Settings app.
- Nudges. Turn Homegrown's notifications off in the Settings app under Notifications.
- Spotlight. Stop Homegrown's plants appearing in search in the Settings app, under Homegrown's Siri and search settings.
- Your data. Export it at any time. Deleting the app removes its on-device data according to iOS behavior. If you used iCloud, you can also remove Homegrown's data from your iCloud account in Settings.
Children's privacy
The app is not directed specifically at children under 13. If you believe information has been collected that should be removed, contact us at the address below.
Changes
We may update this policy when the app changes. The date at the top changes when we do. Continued use of the app after a change means you accept the updated policy.
